Supported Internship students in Personal Development have been making a real difference through their Social Action Plan work. This Christmas, they chose to support My Shining Star, a local charity dedicated to helping children with cancer and their families.

Young people in the programme organised a Christmas gift drive, encouraging donations from people in bemix. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of those who contributed, they collected over 50 gifts.

In December, the students delivered the gifts and had the chance to meet the team at My Shining Star.

Lydia shared, “I hope we get to support My Shining Star in the future. I would like to do an Easter Egg Collection at Easter time.”

Heather from My Shining Star expressed the organisation’s gratitude: “We are so grateful, and this will go a long way towards helping us achieve our target of 5,000 gifts delivered to children with cancer.”

This project is a fantastic example of how young people in bemix’s Supported Employment programme are developing valuable skills whilst making a meaningful difference in their communities. By leading the gift drive, they had the opportunity to be seen, heard, and belong, while creating a positive impact for others.
