Shannon’s bemix Journey: From Nervous First Day to Graduation Success 🎓

We love celebrating the achievements of our bemix learners, and today we are proud to share Shannon’s journey — a story of growth, confidence and success.

Starting somewhere new can feel overwhelming, and Shannon’s first day at bemix was no different. Like many of the young people we support, she arrived feeling nervous and unsure of what to expect. But very quickly, those worries began to fade as she recognised familiar faces and realised she was not alone.

Through her time at bemix, Shannon built friendships, developed new skills and gained valuable work experience that helped her move forward with confidence. With the support of our team, she progressed into work placements, achieved her Maths and English, and explored future opportunities that matched her interests and strengths.

One of the highlights of Shannon’s journey was her work experience at the University of Greenwich, where she tried a range of roles and discovered a passion for catering — serving students, making coffees and being part of a busy, supportive team.

Shannon’s story is a powerful reminder of what can happen when young people feel welcomed, supported and believed in.

Shannon’s Story (in her own words)

“Hi, my name is Shannon, and I was a part of bemix (Supported Internship Programme), and I’m going to tell you what my first day of bemix was and how I felt about my first day at bemix."

"When I first joined bemix, I was really nervous and anxious at first, and I didn’t know what I was going to walk into, but when I saw a few familiar faces, I was not too scared at all.

There were a few of my friends that I first met when I was back at MidKent college, so I knew I was not alone.

I loved it at bemix. They helped with a lot of things, such as helping me with getting my work placement and helping me progress further into the future.

bemix helped me with work experience at the University of Greenwich. I was doing a lot of things down there, such as portering and catering, and some bits of security work, as well. But the thing that I most enjoyed was the catering role. I was serving University students their food, making coffee and also helping with the washing up as well as putting things away.

"I have made so many friends at bemix, and the teachers are so supportive and helpful. They are all so kind and wonderful and well they helped me pass my maths and English."

I’m so grateful to have come to bemix, where I was helped and supported no matter what. I enjoyed being at bemix and wish I could do it all again from the beginning.

"Thank you so much, bemix, for making me feel welcome and helping me through everything."

Looking Ahead

Shannon’s graduation marks an important milestone, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything she has achieved. Her journey reflects the heart of bemix — building confidence, creating opportunities, and supporting young people every step of the way to be seen, be heard and belong.

Thank you for your kind words, and we all wish you continued success in the future,Shannon.
