The Supported Internships and Preparation for Employment (P4E) groups recently went to the cinema as part of the Into Film Festival.

The groups visited the light cinema, where everyone enjoyed the full cinema experience. The Supported Internship group watched The Garfield Movie, and the P4E group watched Flow. People made the most of the recliner chairs and snacks, making the visit relaxed and fun.

Trips like this give young people the chance to practise skills for both work and everyday life. These include planning and timekeeping, making choices, using money, communicating with others, following instructions, and behaving confidently in a public space.

Activities like this also support independence, social skills and confidence — all important for life and work.

Back in the classroom, the cinema trip became a focus for speaking and listening group sessions. Young people shared their thoughts about the films, listened to each other and practised taking turns in conversation.

One young person said:

“I thought it was fun, I enjoyed watching the film and talking about it with everyone.”

At bemix, we believe experiences like this help young people build skills, confidence and independence in a meaningful and enjoyable way, while also having fun and being part of their community.
