Jobs and News News Bemix Projects Collaborate to Learn, Create, and Support Each Other and the Local Community In bemix, we believe in the power of collaboration, and it’s always exciting when our projects come together. Recently, bemix Eco Leads, Leila and Miranda, visited the Eco Shed woodworking project, as part of their work to support eco-friendly initiatives within the organisation. The purpose of their visit was to collect beautifully crafted items for students in our Supported Employment programme to sell at an event they had organised, showcasing the enterprise skills developed during Preparation for Employment Enterprise Skills lessons. Eco Shed products are made from reclaimed wood, such as pallets and old furniture, with donated paints and tools. Everything is reused, recycled, and preloved, which perfectly aligns with bemix sustainability values. Through the collaboration between Eco Shed and the Preparation for Employment group, eco-friendly gifts were created to raise funds for local animal rescue charities, Retreat into Wonderland and Dottie's Little Hog Hospital. Leila and Miranda, lead on eco-friendly projects within bemix, promoting sustainability and environmental awareness across bemix. Their visit provided an opportunity to see the fantastic work being done at Eco Shed, where sustainability is at the heart of the project. During their time at the workshop, they had the chance to chat with project members, Grant and Robert. Grant was working on a chessboard with slide-out drawers for chess pieces, while Robert was busy building a hedgehog house. Grant shared, “I enjoy working with wood; I’m not usually very creative, but in the wood shed, I am. It’s a great feeling when I finish a piece, and we usually have a celebration.” “I like working with wood and making useful things. I enjoy hammering, sanding, sawing, and gluing,” shares Robert. He also loves the social aspect of his work, looking forward to Fridays when he gets to work alongside his team. The collaboration was a great opportunity for bemix projects to come together to learn, create, and support one another, making a meaningful difference to the local community!
